Being a Beauty Queen takes real qualities of grace, etiquette, commitment, determination to succeed and practice. Below I have given some tips on how you can get ahead and start to shine as the Beauty Queen that you were born to be.
1) Treat people how you would like to be treated:
Being a beauty queen takes real strength of character, it takes grooming inwardly and outwardly. A true Beauty Queen knows how to make people feel good, she treats the poor as if they are rich and makes the sick feel healthy. She treats a cleaner the same as how she would treat a Director (both with respect) she never snobs those that are below her level. So ask yourself do I treat people this way?
Be the kind of Beauty Queen that is kind, gracious, noble, full of integrity, friendly, warm, rich in personality and full of charisma. Also treat people good by saying ‘please and thank you’, by not doing foul things i.e. farting on the table, have respect for your elders including the elderly and shop keeper, help your neighbour when she or he needs a helping hand. Remember birthdays and send thank you notes, lovely cards and presents for different moments, show empathy and care when someone is going through a rough patch. Esteem your loved ones especially your family – show them love as they need it too not just your friends and fans.
2) Create a wonderful presence: There is that saying ‘If you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say anything at all’ now this is true and good but also make sure you do not act in unkind ways that are ‘not nice’ either. Some people do not even need to say anything their presence, the look, eyes gives it all away that they do not like you. This is not a good quality to have if you are a Beauty Queen. Let your presence be warm and wonderful one. Make people feel good by smiling, laughing when it’s time to laugh, by being friendly, warm, encouraging and comfortable. Yes it is good to be reserved at times as it shows dignity but don’t be cold as ice. Make an effort to switch on your inward and outward beauty don’t make people feel bad because of your presence. Decide to have a positive presence rather than a negative one.
3) Glow with Beauty: Make an effort to look good. Be well-groomed and well polished. Get your nails done every two weeks if you use acrylic nails or once a week if it is a french manicure. Go for a facial or do one at home once a week or once a fortnight, and develop the habit of taking care of your skin always remember to ‘cleanse, tone and moisturise’ and use wipes or make up remover to take off your make up at night. To shine and dazzle even all the more wear beautiful accessories including diamonds and crystals. All Beauty Queens should get into a habit of wearing these kinds of accessories as it really will make you stand out and shine. It does not have to be real diamonds or crystals, start with high street shops and eventually move forwards into going for the higher end.
4) Wear stunning dresses: When it is time to make an appearance be sure to look amazing and outstanding. This could mean that you buy a new dress, out fit or suit or that you wear a dress/outfit/suit that you love from your closet. Either way wear the dress/outfit/suit in a way that will make you look outstanding. Hair, skin and nails should be well done, accessorize to match your what you are wearing and discover what colours are good for your skin and make a habit of wearing those colours. For example I know that Turquiose green is my colour so if I really want to stand out I know to wear my Mac Turquoise green eye liner and a turquiose green dress. I know how to switch on more beauty if need be because I know the colours that suit me. Knowing yourself is the key.
5) Master your speech: As a Beauty Queen it is important that your voice is heard. No one will hear you if you mumble under your breathe and judges are less likely to care about your speech if you whisper and look down when you talk. So how you can turn this around is to project confidence and clarity.
Speak clear and loud enough for people to hear you. When you say your name do not just say ‘Hey my name is Cindy’ say ‘Hello my name is Cindy Brown’ and give a firm hand shake or a hug with two kisses on the cheek (depending on who you are greeting). They say that first impression is hard to forget so make sure you leave a lasting good impression on those that you meet. for the first time and for those that see you often. Speak with confidence, be bold when you need to be bold. Project your voice and most importantly – know what you are passionate about and bring it up in conversation from time to time as this will automatically help you to be bolder and more assertive when speaking.
Always remember qualities such as good eye contact, good posture, good body language and exercise good listening skills. It is good to talk but also mix this up with good listening. Listen to your friends, family, guests, those that you meet, do not just ramble on (as it is rude), always aim to take your communication higher by speaking in front of a mirror (learn how to increase the volume) practice with or with close family/friends. If you are already too loud then learn how to tone it down slightly. Practice is the key.
Good luck…and if you would like coaching/pageant training always feel free to book one on one with me or register to attend our next Pageant Training day for more amazing tips on how you can shine and have good etiquette as a Beauty Queen.
